Trading standards officers are investigating a ticket agency which reportedly failed to supply hundreds of tickets for last weekend's V festival.
There are fears that many more fans will be disappointed by not receiving their tickets for the Reading and Leeds festivals and concerts by George Michael and Madonna.
A spokesman for Islington Council said: "Islington Council's trading standards are aware of SOS Master Tickets and are in the process of carrying out an investigation into their activity.
"So far there have been more than 300 complaints to the national Consumer Direct helpline."
The BBC said hundreds of music fans were left angry and out of pocket after their tickets for last weekend's V Festival on twin sites in Essex and Staffordshire failed to turn up.
Customers who bought V tickets from SOS were sent an email from the company's managing director, listing a Spanish address, promising refunds and compensation, it said.
But the website had been taken down and all phone and fax numbers were unavailable.
The company is registered to a residential address in Islington, the story said.
Graham Burns, chairman of the Association of Secondary Ticket Agencies, told the Press Association: "The website has been up for four or five months.
"We alerted the authorities to this some months ago, because the prices they were offering for tickets were simply not achievable.
"They were offering a weekend's camping at these festivals for £200, and that is not a realistic figure."
Mr Burns estimated that 1,500 to 2,000 people could be affected across all the events, with an average loss of £400 giving a total figure of £600,000 to £800,000.
