Comment Central: Is this the reason Ringo is so annoyed?
He’s one of the world’s most cherished music stars but, after 40 years in the public eye, Ringo Starr has had enough of his fans.
The former Beatles drummer has made an impassioned appeal for admirers to stop sending him fanmail and has warned that his days of giving autographs are over.
In a video posted on his website, the 68-year-old names October 20 as the day he will officially retire his signature and quit responding to mail.
Flashing the peace sign repeatedly and littering his speech with the phrase “peace and love”, Starr announced: “This is a serious message to everyone watching my update right now. Peace and love. Peace and love.
“I want to tell you, please, after the 20th of October, do not send fan mail to any address that you have. Nothing will be signed after the 20th of October. If that has the date on the envelope it’s going to be tossed.
“I’m warning you, with peace and love, but I have too much to do, so no more fan mail, thank you, thank you, and no objects to be signed – nothing. Peace and love, peace and love."
Even if fans are no longer allowed to get in touch with their hero, Starr is still interested in taking their money in exchange for a range of Ringo Starr T-shirts, tote bags, hoodies and key rings available on his website.
But what about those fans who really just want an autograph? For $12.95 ( £7.35) they can purchase a ying yang necklace featuring the soon-to-be retired Starr autograph stamped on the back.

I have three photos signed by Ringo in response to letters, and also replies from his guitarist and co producer Mark Hudson. I truly do appreciate the photos Ringo! Thank you
Justin, Dearborn, United States
Good luck Ringo....I'll never forget what you ,Paul John and George gave to me and by the way I've never written to you or asked for an autograph...I've no need I have the most important thing...your music...enjoy your retirement in Love and Peace,
Jennifer, Chigwell, Essex
A Beatle can do no wrong.
Tim, Vancouver WA, USA
These 'fans' should have better things to do with their time than bother Ringo with mail and requests.
All that music and world-changing style was a gift enough for us all to treasure forever. I'm sure all of you sarcastic anti-Ringo people love all that junk mail you get every day too!!
Linda Williams, Cardiff, Wales
The Beatles ended over 35 years ago, why should he sign anything now?
People just think they have the right to something for nothing. At least he has been decent enough to ask to be left alone, he could just burn mail.
And finally with Pete Best; no Beatles, George Martin's words not mine.
PapaP, Bath, UK
Oh yeah right on Andy, Rock on Virgil, RIP Cozy & forget Ringo!
Dave Farmer, Broxbourne, England
Best drum solo in the world. Are you mad! Youtube anything with Virgil Donati in it and learn a lesson!
andy webster, ampthill, uk
All we are saying is give.......you tube a chance and see Cozy Powell doing the best drum solo in the world ever!! Peace, love and a yellow submarine!
Dave Farmer, Broxbourne, England
Dear Ringo, please read this before October 20th or you will be tossed, if fans stop send you photos of your tour because they have too much to do, I'm sure you'll understand, peace and love peace and love
Bill Roberts, Gillingham, Kent, UK
Well he could have said nothing and just dumped everything in the bin. Most of the 'signed' stuff is ending up on e-bay and being sold on for a profit. Personal jibes are rather childish. The man is a 'Beatle' and was part of the chemistry that made the group the force it was. Peace and Love :)
Dave B, York, uk
I hope his money supply dries up! I've never seen such a pathetic rant from a media person. Why doesn't he get a job? Pathetic little man.
RayB, Newcatle upon Tyne, UK
So as long as I get my "Confessions of a washed-up, fourth most talented Beatle" to him by Oct 20th, he'll sign it?
Andrew, Godalming, UK
Has he forgotten that it is actually the fans that have got him to where he is today?
chris hornby, wokingham, england
How come none of The Beatles have scouse accents? Ringo sounds just like McCartney in that clip. I suppose that is what a posh scouse accent sounds like.
David, Manchester,
And after his rant, Thomas trundled back into his shed.
Never to be seen again...Parp Parp.
graham, faversham,
Please don't under-estimate the man's talent ! The Beatles were a 4 piece and each one had their part to play in making the most significant band ever IMO. Give Ringo a break !
Andrew Heasman, Ipswich,
I never have, don't now and never will send anything to Ringo Starr - so he has no need to worry. However I may send cards for the autographs for the session drummers The Beatles used.
Rodney Barker, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire UK
Why does he have any fans ? He was a lucky guy who was picked to drum (badly) for the Beatles when Pete Best was dropped - why does anyone think hes relevant ?
Hilary, Plymouth, Devon
Tired and emotional perhaps?
Mark, Bournemouth, England
I think it's quite funny actually.
peterolland, odense, denmark
Have been a fan since the beginning in the 60's, but now I
know why Paul was always my favorite. Maybe something else
is going on like bad health or something. Too bad, his fans deserved more.
Word to the enlightened. Switch your loyalty to Clay Aiken, I have.
K, Grand Rapids, usa
And stop buying my CD's, I'm rich enough, folks!
Paul Freeman, London, England
The difference between The Stones and The Beatles?
The Stones practised what they preached while The Beatles didn't.
Here endeth the lesson.
Mick, Cork, Ireland
If he wants no more fan interaction, does this mean he will be returning all the money hes made/ continues to make from fans which he is now living off.
Alan Barr, Leeds, UK
The man has finally lost it, who cares, you were always the less talented one of the group anyway! Here is again making a fool of himself like in Liverpool earlier this year and on Jon Ross! Seriously MAN get real and get over yourself!!!
John, Dublin, Ireland
Why would you want an autograph from a bloke who wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles?
jonners, weybridge,
Give the man a break. Ringo's nearly 70 and after 40 years hard work getting someone else to reply to his fan mail, it's clear he's had enough. The someone else is constantly asking for a wage rise and well, you know how it is. Dingle, see. Peace and love, but a wage rise is out of the question.
George Salmon, Liverpool, UK
How far up himself is he?
A classic case of 'right place, right time'.
Mr Starkey should thank his lucky stars that he's in the position he's in now as it is certainly not down to his musical ability.
He wasn't even that good at telling thr Thomas the Tank Engine stories!
Get over yourself!
Mark Doggett, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong
You'd think he'd have said it with a bit more tact! Why didn't he say something like "I'm really sorry folks, and thank you for all the support ove the years, but I need to ask you kindly to stop sending me stuff to sign. I don't have enough hours in the day to cope...etc etc"???!!!! Weird.
Matthew, Milton Keynes, UK
Ok so he wants to do more with his time than constantly sign autographs and stuff, I undertand that!
BUT........... if he says "peace and love" one more time I'll never listen to his music again!
Marc, Antrim, N Ireland
What a sad person, I think he's forgotten where all his money came from .... his fans
Neil Bloom, Szczecin, Poland
"I'm warning you, with peace and love" sums up why the 60s generation blew it and became bankers.
Jim, Burnley, UK
Had not really intended to ask for an autograph,in fact always thought Joe Cocker made a better job of 'With a little help from my friends' thought this guy had staff to do this kind of thing anyway so not sure what his problem is!Patrick McGoohan has done more for Portmerrion then he has for L/pool
Dave Farmer, Broxbourne, England
