WE SAY: Another day, another cute band from Baltimore, Maryland. Wye Oak stand out from the self-consciously kooky/utterly nauseating crowd by means of their swoon inducing tunesmithery. Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack have got their pop chops down to a tee best exemplified by the track, Warning. These dudes might be dealing in hipster cliques but their music has nothing to do with the scene swing that typifies their town. Warning sounds like early Nineties, collegiate rock in all its U Mass glory: think the harmony stacked alterna-pop as previously practiced by Blake Babies, Juliana Hatfield Three, Throwing Muses and Belly. A glorious, head spinning, sugar rush of a song.

IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: Well now, according to that bastion of impartiality and truth, Wikipedia, Wye Oak was the honorary state tree of Maryland. Wye Oak is also a band.
