Amy Winehouse’s husband has lost an appeal against his sentence for attacking a pub landlord and perverting the course of justice.
Blake Fielder-Civil was at the Court of Appeal in London this morning to see two judges reject his challenge.
After hearing the verdict, the 26-year-old said: "I am disappointed but not really surprised."
Sentenced to 27-months in prison, Fielder-Civil spent a year behind bars for the vicious attack on James King, carried out with friend Michael Brown, and his attempt to buy off the victim with a £200,000 bribe. He was released from prison two-and-a-half weeks ago on the condition he reside at a drug rehabilitation centre.
Following today’s verdict, he will be forced to remain at the clinic.
Dismissing the appeal, Mr Justice Pitchford said the court wanted to encourage Fielder-Civil to continue with the rehabilitation process, saying it is only if "these attempts are successful that he has a worthwhile future".
Fielder-Civil found fame by proxy after leading a chaotic life with Grammy-award winner Winehouse. The pair wed in May 2007 and were in and out of police cells, rehab clinics and gossip columns until Fielder-Civil was jailed.
The singer, herself battling addiction, has spent much of the past year dedicating her performances to “Blake, incarcerated”, even comparing his plight to that of former South African President and arpartheid protestor Nelson Mandela, but the pair’s relationship is now understood to be faltering.
News of the World reported that a friend of Winehouse’s had confirmed that their marriage was over.
The Back to Black singer has not visited Fielder-Civil since he left prison.
