Legendary Scottish pop groups including Annie Lennox, Wet Wet Wet, The Proclaimers, Texas and Travis will perform alongside English acts such as Dido and Snow Patrol at a free concert in Edinburgh to coincide with the G8 summit.
Midge Ure, the former Ultravox frontman, unveiled the line-up for the concert at the Murrayfield rugby stadium on July 6 which will also include performances by The Zutons, Natasha and Daniel Bedingfield, The Thrills, Jamie Cullum and Ronan Keating.
The concert is aimed at sending a message to the G8 meeting of the leaders of the world's richest countries, who will be gathered at Gleneagles for the first day of their three day conference.
The music event will be staged under the banner Live 8 Long Walk To Justice, and will form the climax of a day of public demonstrations in the Scottish capital.
Sir Bob Geldof, the rock star turned anti-poverty activist, has called for a million protesters to march on the city - and has refused to tone down this appeal, even after the city's police and civic leaders warned that the event would cripple the city and could spiral out of control.
Ure, originally from near Glasgow, has said that he and fellow Band Aid veteran Geldof might also take to the stage for the gig at Murrayfield, which can hold 90,000 people.
The 51-year-old, who now lives in Bath, urged as many people as possible to turn up and "be part of a day which might just change the world".
After announcing the list of confirmed acts he told reporters: "It's going to be a fantastic day."
The gig will take place four days after the Live 8 concerts which Ure is organising with Geldof in London and around the world. A text message contest for the 66,500 pairs of tickets yesterday received 600 entries per second, generating £3 million in its first day.
