Britpop luminaries Blur are following the lead of Led Zeppelin and reuniting for a London concert next summer.
The July 3 show, in Hyde Park, will bring the four band members – Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree – together on stage for the first time since 2000.
Tickets are priced at £45 and will go on sale at 9am on Friday on concert promoter Live Nation's website.
Today the band, who never officially split but came unstuck amidst rumours of dire disagreements, posted a video on their website which showed them greeting one another warmly and discussing their reunion.
Bass guitarist James opens the clip, commenting: "Well, that was a long time between band practices, wasn't it?"
He goes on to say of the comeback: “I was beginning to think that it might never happen again and then all of a sudden bang, go, go, go and it's very, very, very exciting.”
Singer Albarn, who has formed rock supergroup The Good The Bad & The Queen and written the hit opera Monkey during Blur’s hiatus, said the band planned to “play to our strengths and share a bit of happiness.”
The group notched up four No 1 albums between 1994 and 1999 and then took a hiatus as Coxon went solo, Albarn created the cartoon band Gorillaz, with Jamie Hewlett, and James co-wrote songs for Sophie Ellis-Bexter and Marianne Faithful. In 2002 they regrouped and made their fifth No 1 album, Think Tank, but during recording guitarist Coxon left the band. The remaining members promoted Think Tank, but didn't make any further albums.
In an interview with NME, published today, Albarn and Coxon said the band had put their disagreements behind them. “It just felt it was right again,” Albarn told the music magazine.
Blur join a wave of bands reuniting for shows or tours. Over the past two years, The Police, Genesis, Led Zeppelin and the Spice Girls, have all reunited.
