WE SAY: You’d never guess that The Leisure Society’s Nick Hemming has composed music for such cinematic treaties on the state of raging, emasculated, suburban alpha-males as This is England or Dead Man’s Shoes - not when you soak up the winsome wonder of this gem. Glistering with near tangible, diamond-twinkling, winter post-card purity, The Last of the Melting Snow’s snowballing effect upon such noted disc jockey luminaries as Mark Riley, Stuart Maconie, Zane Lowe, that one from Kenickie and, er, Dermot O’Leary, can be attributed to its sheer class. With the type of understated orch-pop the likes of Eric Matthews and Jim O-Rourke used to make, the song’s undeniable charm will doubtless prompt much speaker hugging and general love and good will to all mankind. Amen
