Now That's What I Call Music 1 was re-released today, after celebrating its 25th birthday.

Record label EMI TV put out the 1983 classic as a special commemorative anniversary edition, for the first time ever on a limited-edition CD. The release bears a version of the original vinyl sleeve.

The compilation celebrated its quarter century last month.

Now... 1 includes 11 singles that reached the top of the UK charts, such as Culture Club's Karma Chameleon, Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse Of The Heart, UB40's Red Red Wine and Candy Girl by New Edition.

The album set the benchmark for later compilations.

The Now... series is on its 72nd instalment, with a variety of spin-offs and worldwide editions.

The original compilation is described as a "who's who of 1983".

Featured artists also included Rod Stewart, Paul Young, Tina Turner, Duran Duran, Phil Collins, Men Without Hats, Kajagoogoo, Simple Minds, Men At Work, Tracey Ullman, the Cure and Madness.

The album was a big success that year, becoming one of a handful of compilations to ever top the Official UK Album Charts and selling some 900,000 copies.
