Kanye West is hardly known for his mild manner, but he has matched even his most famous tantrums after civilians dared launch Twitter accounts in his name.
The hip-hop star turned vocoder vocalist hit the caps lock and posted a rant on his website, pointing out that he was far too busy “being creative” to use Twitter and that the micro-blogging site should never have let anyone “tweet” using his name.
While millions have quickly adopted Twitter as their preferred mode of communication, West declared “Everything that Twitter offers, I need less of”.
His enthusiastically-punctuated, paragraph-free blog post read:
“DON’T HAVE A F****** TWITTER… WHY WOULD I USE TWITTER??? I ONLY BLOG 5 PERCENT OF WHAT I’M UP TO IN THE FIRST PLACE. I’M ACTUALLY SLOW DELIVERING CONTENT BECAUSE I’M TOO BUSY ACTUALLY BUSY BEING CREATIVE MOST OF THE TIME AND IF I’M NOT AND I’M JUST LAYING ON A BEACH I WOULDN’T TELL THE WORLD. EVERYTHING THAT TWITTER OFFERS I NEED LESS OF. THE PEOPLE AT TWITTER KNOW I DON’T HAVE A F****** TWITTER SO FOR THEM TO ALLOW SOMEONE TO POSE AS ME AND ACCUMULATE OVER A MILLION NAMES IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND DECEITFUL TO THERE FAITHFUL USERS. REPEAT… THE HEADS OF TWITTER KNEW I DIDN’T HAVE A TWITTER AND THEY HAVE TO KNOW WHICH ACCOUNTS HAVE HIGH ACTIVITY ON THEM. IT’S A F****** FARCE AND IT MAKES ME QUESTION WHAT OTHER SO CALLED CELEBRITY TWITTERS ARE ACTUALLY REAL OR FAKE. HEY TWITTER, TAKE THE SO CALLED KANYE WEST TWITTER DOWN NOW …. WHY? … BECAUSE MY CAPS LOCK KEY IS LOUD!!!!!!!!!”
It is not West's first online rant, but traditionally he directs his aggression at the paparazzi.
The star, known for the songs Jesus Walks and Gold Digger, is due in court next week on charges of assault, theft and vandalism over a clash with paparazzi last autumn.
After being arrested and released without charge last year over a different incident with photographers in Newcastle, he penned a blog taking in Diana, Princess of Wales, legal rights and common courtesy.
"Let us not forget that the paps killed Princess Diana. When will there be a law passed that simply enforces that someone has to ask to take a photograph of you? That would seem like common courtesy,” he wrote.
"Right now the paps are above the law and the people they shoot are below it," West declared.
He has also directed a series of rants at the MTV Awards. In 2004, when he lost, he gave a fiery response, giving reporters a run-down on how he was robbed. A similar incident followed in 2006, when he stormed the EMAs stage to protest at failing to win a gong.
