In a cyber spat to end them all, Perez Hilton has used Twitter to accuse the Black Eyed Peas musician Will.i.am of assaulting him.
The American gossip blogger sent a series of messages via Twitter in the early hours of this morning saying he was in Canada, bleeding and needed help.
His one million followers on the mini blog site were able to see the message: “I'm in shock. I need the police ASAP. Please come to the SoHo Metropolitan Hotel now. Please.”
Hilton, in Toronto for the MuchMusic Video Awards, went on to explain: “I was assaulted by Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards. I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke.”
He posted a further five messages, as he spoke to police, tracked down his lawyer and, then finally, decided, apparently without irony, that he would not be drawn on the subject again.
“I won’t be talking about this any further. It is in the hands of the authorities,” he wrote.
Within hours, Will.i.am, who had attended the same awards ceremony, responded to the claims, also choosing to make his case on the web.
In a video posted on his own social networking site, Dipdive, the musician, famous for the hits Where Is The Love and Don’t Phunk With My Heart, accused Hilton of lying.
“This dude twists it and says that I assaulted him, when I was the one that came to him with respect and he was the one who called me a faggot.
“I hit you, Perez? Come on, dude. I didn’t hit you. I told you that I didn’t like the fact that you disrespected us,” he said.
He continued: “Instead of calling the police, you twittered that I assaulted you? Sounds like somebody wants mad attention and is not really concerned about his health.”
“I didn’t hit you. It’s very wrong that you are tweeting that I did that - once again disrespecting me and everything that I stand for - and they’re lies. Shame on you, shame on your behaviour, and that’s just messed up.”
Hilton then defended his decision to tweet, explaining he had already called the police and as he waited for them, he reached out for help.
“I called the police BEFORE I Tweeted about it. They were not showing up. I felt helpless.”
It is not the first time that Hilton has clashed with a member of the Black Eyed Peas. The group’s singer Fergie wrote the 2006 song Pedestal about the blogger, complaining about the rumours he spread and including barbed lyrics such as “people talking out of their arse”.
The blogger is also known for engaging in Twittter spats with celebritites. Earlier this year he exchanged a series of bilious messages with pop singer Lily Allen, at one point telling her that if he "wanted to be a f***** up Brit, I'd rather be Amy Winehouse - who's got talent.”
Hilton, whose site regularly recieves 8 million hits a day, has become one of the world’s most powerful showbusiness voices. In recent years he has increasingly stepped into the limelight himself, filming a video segment for Britney Spears’s high-profile world tour, recording a song for a movie soundtrack, and making guest appearances on TV shows MTV Cribs and Paris Hilton’s New BFF.
But he has also faced a raft of legal problems, including suits from Spears’s record label Zomba Label Group, photo agency X17Online and celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson.
