Update at 16:00, Friday, June 26
Meteogroup said this afternoon that an estimated 0.7in (17mm) of rain fell between 8pm last night and 1pm today.
That represents nearly a third of the total monthly rainfall, which is 2.4in (60mm).
The forecast as of midday, Friday, June 26
Glastonbury revellers were coming to terms with the loss of Michael Jackson today as they coped with boggy conditions during a morning of solid rain.
The 900-acre site in Pilton, Somerset, transformed into the familiar sea of plastic macs and Wellington boots as the news spread.
Forecaster Meteogroup said the weather would brighten up by mid afternoon with only a few isolated showers returning around tea-time. Both Saturday and Sunday are also expected to be fair.
Weatherman Rob Hutchinson said today: "It's going to brighten up this afternoon. You will see some quite warm sunshine.
"The big 'but' is that depending on how much sunshine there is, that might encourage further showers. When the cloud breaks up it puts more energy into the atmosphere and you might see isolated showers between 5pm and 6pm.
"It looks completely dry overnight and it seems like it will be a pretty decent day tomorrow - dry with sunny spells and reasonably clear.
"On Sunday, everything suggests it will be mostly dry too, but you can never completely rule out showers."
The forecast as of 10.45am, Thursday, June 25
As the festival kicks off, the outlook for Saturday and Sunday is looking more cheering than previously forecast, but the weather for today and Friday won't please festivalgoers.
This morning there may be brief, light showers, but this afternoon a heavy rain shower is likely to hit. The Met Office predicts the weather will worsen this evening, bringing heavy rain and thunder.
Friday sees more of the same, with rain forecast in the morning, clearing briefly, before heavy rain and thunder hits again in the afternoon.
It will be dry and sunny for much of Saturday and Sunday with an isolated shower or two possible.
Despite the rain, forecasters predict a warm few days, with temperatures expected to reach 25C.
The forecast as of 10.30am, Wednesday, June 24
The Met Office predicts a heavy rain shower for Thursday afternoon just as the first bands kick off the festival. It should then fine up during the evening before raining again during the night.
More heavy rain showers are predicted for Friday but the sun will be out at intervals and temperatures should hit 23C.
Saturday will bring more of the same but the skies should clear during the night.
Sunday will see the temperature shoot to 23C, with cloudy skies but only light rain showers. The night is expected to be dry.
