Homicide detectives have interviewed Michael Jackson's personal physician as they seek details to explain the singer's sudden death.
Dr Conrad Murray, a cardiologist, was the last person to see the pop star alive. Her performed CPR on the star after he went into cardiac arrest.
Dr Murray, who is based in Las Vegas but was living at Jackson's rented mansion at the time, retained lawyers before he met detectives for three hours in Los Angeles late yesterday. Police had spoken to him briefly in the aftermath of Jackson's death but sought him all Friday.
Miranda Sevcik, a spokeswoman for the doctor, said in a statement that Dr Murray "helped identify the circumstances around the death of the pop icon and clarified some inconsistencies. Investigators say the doctor is in no way a suspect and remains a witness to this tragedy."
The statement said that Dr Murray rode in the ambulance and stayed at the UCLA medical center for hours, "comforting and consoling the Jackson family". It also said he has been in Los Angeles since Jackson's death, and planned to stay until his cooperation was no longer needed.
Police confirmed that they interviewed Murray, adding that he was cooperative and "provided information which will aid the investigation".
Police towed Dr Murray's car from Jackson's home hours after Jackson died and said later it could contain medications or other evidence.
Meanwhile the Jackson family asked for a second, private autopsy on the body of the singer because of unanswered questions about how he died. An official autopsy by Los Angeles County medical examiners was performed on Friday and the preliminary results showed no sign of foul play. No official cause of death was given. However, the results of toxicology tests will not be known for up to six weeks.
Jackson was reportedly addicted to a cocktail of prescription drugs, including anti-depressants, and the Jackson family want to investigate claims that he was given an injection of demerol immediately before his death. Coroner's officials have said Jackson was taking prescription medicines but declined to elaborate.
The Reverend Jesse Jackson, a family friend, said: "It's abnormal. We don't know what happened. Was he injected and with what? All reasonable doubt should be addressed."
Spiritual teacher Dr Deepak Chopra, a friend of Jackson's for 20 years, said he had been concerned since 2005 that Jackson was abusing prescription painkillers and most recently spoke to the pop star about suspected drug use six months ago.
