The last original member of chart-toppers The Sugababes has been pushed from the band and replaced by this year’s UK Eurovision contestant, Jade Ewen.
Keisha Buchanan announced late last night that she had parted ways with Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah, leaving them The Sugababes name despite neither being part of the founding 1998 line-up.
In a series of messages posted on mini-blog site Twitter, Buchanan, 24, said she had been pushed from the band after a “break down in communication” and because of a “lack of trust”.
“Dear Friends I'm sad to say that I am no longer apart of the Sugababes,” she wrote.
“Although it was not my choice to leave, it's time to enter a new chapter in my life.”
She went on to contest wide-spread rumours that bullying and arguing led to the split.
“I have nothing but positive things to say about the girls and I wish them the best of luck.”
“I would like to state that there were no arguments, bullying or anything of the sort that lead to this.”
But she then made a thinly-disguised attack on her former bandmates.
“Sometimes a break down in communication and lack of trust can result in many different things,” she wrote.
In a decidedly more formal statement on the band’s website, The Sugababes confirmed the news.
“The current line-up of the Sugababes has disbanded.
"Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah will continue as the Sugababes and will be joined by new member Jade Ewen.
"They release their album Sweet 7 on November 23 through Island Records.
"Keisha Buchanan will continue to record for Island Records as a solo artist."
The band has faced speculation over its future since Berrabah missed two performances earlier this month. She was rumoured to be planning to leave the group.
Reports that she had gone missing after being “bullied” by her bandmate prompted an angry Twitter denial from Buchanan, in which she insisted there were no problems within the group.
“With the current line up, I can honestly say that we all get along! I'm sure we bug each other at times... but I love them girls. And there has NEVER been bullying in sugababes EVER!”
In the eleven years since Buchanan formed the Sugababes with Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy, the group has enjoyed enormous success, clocking up six No 1 singles, including Round Round and Push the Button, and two No 1 albums.
But the band has frequently been beset by arguments and line-up changes.
Donaghy walked out in 2001, following an argument with Buchanan. She later said her time with the band turned her into a “zombie”.
She was replaced by Heidi Range, but in 2005 Buena left, going on to launch a successful solo career.
Eurovision star Ewen is the sixth member to be a part of the trio. She is understood to be re-recording Buchanan’s parts for the band’s forthcoming album.
