Queen In 2004, 13 years after Freddie Mercury died of Aids, they re-formed the band featuring former Free and Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers. They split from Rodgers in May this year but are set to release a greatest hits album.
Destiny’s Child LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckettwere part of the band’s original line-up, alongside Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland and featured on their bestselling Writings on the Wall album. Tensions emerged between Roberson and Luckett and the group’s manager Matthew Knowles, Beyoncé’s father. They were swiftly replaced with Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin; the latter left the group in 2000, leaving the trio to storm the charts.
Pink Floyd The psychedelic rock band’s founding frontman Syd Barrett disappeared in 1968 and was replaced by the singer and guitarist Dave Gilmour. Roger Waters came to dominate and decided it was time to disband the Floyd in 1985. Gilmour and the remaining band kept recording and touring under the band’s name and Waters sought legal action. Years of acrimony ended when Waters stunned the rock world by performing with the band at Live 8.
The Pussycat Dolls The original dance troupe featured Christina Applegate and Carmen Electra during the 1990s and were developed into a recording group after a cull of members. In 2003 Nicole Scherzinger, Kaya Jones and Melody Thornton were cast. In 2007, Asia Nitollano became the latest Doll, having won her place through a reality show. Yet, after only two performances, she split from the group.
Guns N’ Roses The rock band created its name by combining two of the group members' names — though Tracii Guns was ousted within months and replaced by the now legendary guitarist Slash. With Axl Rose, Slash and bassist Duff McKagan at the helm, the band rocked the charts in the 80s and 90s before Slash and McKagan sensationally quit. Rose continues to tour and record under their name, but with a completely new line-up.
Fleetwood Mac Members of the band have operated on a revolving door policy, coming, going and then returning, but the two members who lent the band their names, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, remain a constant presence.
