Polytechnic - Down Til Dawn

Their horrible name screams a lack of ambition, and this Manchester-based quintet is scarcely innovative. But Polytechnic perform sensible tunes with skill, ticking off all the obvious influences (Velvets, Felt, Postcard) and throwing in a touch of country-rock to good effect. The vocalist, Dylan Giles, yelps through several rather forgettable choruses like a young answer to Neil Young, but songs like Cold Hearted Business and Running out of Ideas are neatly arranged. This is a good effort but one to file alongside undervalued obscurities such as the Tyde and Cranebuilders.

This is a cracking album.
Definatley a grower but some lovely tunes on it.
