2 for 1 tickets to Singin' In The Rain, this coming Monday. Book now
American Doll Posse
(Epic)

The veteran singer-song-writer’s new record is credited to five of her alter egos (they all have different wigs too). Though this sounds predictably kooky, in fact this dense, overlong album will fascinate the committed without alienating casual listeners. Yo George is the obligatory Bush basher, but the single Big Wheel and the glammy stomp of Teenage Hustling, a Queen tribute to match Mika’s, are commercial yet unpredictable.

Have to agree with Leah on this. I think this is her best album ever, not that the others were bad. And to witness her live in Manchester the other night was simply fantastic, the best live act I have seen in years. OK, she may not be everyones cup of tea, you either like her music or you dislike it. But she has always been loyal to her fans, and her fans are loyal to her.
Jules, Radstock, UK
The eclectic nature of this album is not to be underestimated. From the lush string writing to diverse rock arrangments the music is worthy of mulitple playings. Tori Amos has returned to form being one of the few artists that push bourndies encorporating fusion of traditional styles, yet keeping an individual sound of her own. Some of the songs are weaker than others and further editing of this long album may have led to a superb 12 song album, however, due to the diverse nature of this recording it will please many and definately entertain her fans.

I think perhaps the writer of that review didn't really listen to the album in full.
Amos has consistently put out albums that are challenging to the listener - intellectually, sonically and emotionally. She has continued to explore new territory without sacrificing her integrity as an artist, while keeping her fans coming back for more, as only few artists can.
