It is hard to avoid the comparisons between the Cribs and the Pigeon Detectives – two Leeds-based indie bands championed by Kaiser Chiefs – but there is little of the Jarman brothers’ cynicism to spice up the latter’s energetic punk-pop.

The songs here follow the template of the hit single Romantic Type, arriving armed with sharp, melodic hooks and urgent lead guitar from Oli Main. Matt Bowman barks the words but the lyrics are one-dimensional tales about relationships that flirt with romance but opt for the boozer instead. It is laddish, knockabout stuff but, like Bowman’s habit of encouraging female audience members to hand him their undergarments, it wears thin in no time.
