Andrea Corr: Ten Feet High
While her siblings have given up the Corrs to spend more time with their families, Andrea Corr has gone solo. Her idea seems to be to reposition herself as a left-of-centre pop diva, hence the choice of Nellee Hooper as producer. The gothic, synthesized strut of Hello Boys, in which Corr adopts the persona of a brothel madam, is about as far as her songwriting imagination and colourless vocal will take her down this road, however, so Hooper’s job is to try to drum up interest for harmlessly catchy pop ditties such as Champagne from a Straw and 24 Hours. Unfortunately, he sounds stuck in an airless 1990s high-tech sound lab, while, without her siblings, Corr just sounds stuck.

I think credit must be handed to Andrea for the lengths she has gone to in collaboration and exploration of different genres. Her vocal is hardly colourless but rather, for me, a welcome departure from R&B warbling and wailing. I do prefer her in the Celtic pop genre but unfortunately said genre is niche. I would hate to see her lose her delightful irish accented vocal. It doesn't hurt Snow Patrol but I wonder if that's because they are a male band and it seems easier to get away with a regional accent in pop. However it is good to see Lily Allen and Kate Nash bringing regional accents in pop centre-stage. However it's still very indicative of the Anglo-centric bias of popular media in the UK.

This album is just GREAT!! I love it and do not understand why the opinions about Corr debiut are so bad. You don't know what are You talking about!! Andrea has written great songs and the album is very well done!!!!!!
