Enter our Snapshots of Summer photography competition

By giving theirs away, Prince and Radiohead, and now Ray Davies, have sparked a debate about the true value of an album. The melancholy title track will likely inspire nostalgia for old Kinks tunes, but the sprawling Morphine Song, with its boisterous horn section, and Vietnam Cowboys, a dig at globalisation, are perfectly decent. A few Knopflery outbreaks of tastefulness aside, this is easily worth the price of a Sunday paper.

I´ve been listening it all over again and again! Thank you Ray!
Liisa Laine, Pirkkala, Finland
well ray, i think you've done it again... but i'm amazed nobody has mentioned "one more time" and "the real world"... great, great songs!
while the latter has a "celluloid heroes" feel about it . ironic that this new song should be about the unreal, the surreal and the real!
the former reminds me of " wonderboy" with its lalalas, and believe me "one more time" will stand the test next to the kinks' "days"...
easily... ray is always at his best when he's being reflective and nostalgic . still all around it's a great album and much better produced than his last album. would it only be because there, the production is sympathetic and understated to ray's songs...
his songs don't need more than that to shine like stars in the sky at night.

One of his best ever, and unbelievable that it was actually given away with the price of the newspaper only.
Go Ray, go !!

It's taken a long time and a lot of heartache, for him as well as us, but finally the proof re-emerges. Ray Davies is the best songwriter this country has produced in the modern era.
Steve Lockwood, london,
A very good album with at least 3 classic tracks. I will now look into his back catologue with great interest.
Vaughan Whitehurst, Mansfield,
On my 10th listen and still not skipping tracks. Awesome!
Steve Harris, Plymouth,
Ray Davies remains an inspired genius
John Wilsher, Barnstaple,
A great album and should be album of the year.
Jaroslav Budnyk, Darwen, Lancs
