Brian Eno and Robert Fripp have been collaborating for more than 30 years, so you probably know already whether you like what they do. If so, then this album is a bit of a result - and a bit of a surprise, actually. They released only one album (2004’s The Equatorial Stars) in the period under discussion, yet here is a whole album’s worth of offcuts and outtakes. Presumably, much of this music was made with no specific project in mind, a theory supported by the “let’s come back to this one later” nature of some of the titles (Ringing Beat, Dirt Loop, Voices). The tracks vary wildly - the creeping threat of Sneering Loop, the shuddering chaos of Cross Crisis in Lust Storm, the sombre ambience of Glass Structure - but the sounding-like-nobody-else-ness remains consistent.
