Juanes: La Vida Es Un Ratico

The phrase “today’s biggest Latin artist” is common PR spin for lightweight salsa, used in the hope that another Livin’ La Vida Loca will eventually turn up.

This year, it is the turn of Colombia’s Juanes Vásquez to get an international push on the back of a million-selling album whose singles held the No 1 spot at home for six months in 2004. The single Me Enamora has the sass and suss of Girls Aloud (if their puppet master was Alex Kapranos) and is packed with hooks, yet it pales next to several songs, especially No Creo En El James, for which the singer shows off his guitar playing on a fantastic piece of pop-punk-funk. A seriously good time seems guaranteed.
