to The Sunday Times

After 40 years Genesis still offer a maddening combination of inspired poetry and insipid pop. Recorded live in the summer, this revisits their glory days as prog-rock giants, but also showcases their descent (post Peter Gabriel) into synthetic easy-listening banality. The dead hand of Phil Collins will send many racing for the exit.

Oh Debra, its a shame that your review has so little thought, talk about jumping on the band wagon. You need to review the music, not the opinion of a few small minded individuals, which you tend to follow.
Michael, Brighton, England
Debra - very lazy, one expects more from The Times - I dare say your preview copy didnt get out of its wrapper. Attacking Phil Collins is the easy way out.
When you have listened to it please give the album a proper critique. You may even like it - try Carpet Crawlers for starters!

I saw them in Chicago, what a night. Shinning musicianship. While some stupid critics keep saying foolish about Collins, he is still a master of drums and a top class singer. But who cares for the critics? I don´t.

I was at Twickenham in July and have looked foward to this release for months. Another great live album from one of the greatest live bands - ever. Nick Davis has done a superb job in picking the best tracks from the european leg of the 2007 tour. We probably wont see them again, but we thought that 15 years ago.

I'm a long, long-time progressive era zealot and a stalwart critic of the post Gabriel/ Hackett direction, but having seen this tour in Philadelphia and just got into the CD I have to say it is indeed a fantastic effort. Yes, the Genesis fan base fragmented like no other, you should have seen the rows of young people looking lost and bewildered when they played Ripples (a painfully beautiful piece of music and played gorgeously here), but other than ignore the music that most people know them for, some of which was even well enough done to allow even me to enjoy it like never before (never thought I'd be excited to hear another version of Hold On My Heart, but I am...), there's not much else they could have done to pander to their really, really, really old base.
I'm left with a tremendous affection and admiration for these guys. It was a kick-arse concert and the CD brings out all kinds of subtlelty and detail that was hard to pick out in the stadium environment. Bravo.
Sean, Allentown, PA, USA
I agree with Liz, fantastic gig during the summer. Genesis can still cut it live - fantastic mixture of old and new. Your critic should get off the poke-at-fun-at-Collins bandwagon and appreciate a rock band who are still able to draw and entertain crowds of this size.
Quality stuff.
Niall Kavanagh, DUBLIN, Ireland
Well 3 million people listened to Genesis perform live over the Summer in Europe and North America - didn't see many of them racing for the exit - not many bands can attract half a million at one concert. Fantastic band and absolutely fantastic live CD. Well done boys.
