Juno is the teen pregnancy flick that the US has fallen hard for. The soundtrack has proved equally popular, going Top 10. Essentially your ultimate mixtape of oddball nursery rhymes for romantic types, it mixes up golden oldies such as Buddy Holly’s Dearest with the Velvet Underground’s I’m Sticking With You, and All I Want Is You by the “comic anarchist” and kid’s songwriter Barry Polisar with indie heroes such as Sonic Youth. What no doubt has been its secret rocket fuel, however, are the original numbers by queen of tenderly wry, singsong acoustica Kimya Dawson. Deserves all those teeth-grinding adjectives like “quirky”, “feel-good” and “cute” but don’t hold that against it.
