Capital is the final part of Chris TT’s London trilogy, and anyone who has either of the first two instalments – 2001’s The 253 and 2003’s London Is Sinking – will need no encouragement to buy it immediately. As on the earlier albums, Chris stakes his claim to be the 21st-century Ray Davies: a witty, insightful observer of the bittersweet, and sometimes just bitter, truths about the city. What makes Capital different is a new aggression in the music, due in part to the presence of Razorlight’s drummer, Andy Burrows. Though the London concept gets lost a bit (but how many songs on Sgt Pepper are about the band?), the more personal tracks offer a welcome counterpoint to the bigger themes (“If you’re scared things are gonna get worse – you’re right, they’re gonna get worse”) of the on-concept material.
