The Acorn: Glory Hope Mountain - The Sunday Times review
It’s possible that if I mention that Glory Hope Mountain began with the Acorn’s songwriter, Rolf Klausener, interviewing his mother for eight hours, after which he headed to the Smithsonian Institution to carry out some ethnomusicological research, you may start scanning the rest of the page to see if anyone made an album by just plugging in and rocking out — but don’t be scared. Klausener’s efforts to get to know both his mother and the music of her native Honduras have led to a collection of songs that transform her life story — a tale of abuse, escape, abandonment, survival — into music that resonates universally. I doubt that Canadian bands like being labelled “Americana”, but that’s where we’re going to put this folky, eclectic and uplifting album, sliding it in neatly next to Sufjan Stevens.
