He is not a name yet, but this London-based composer writes densely textured music that, at its best, is quietly mesmerising. The sound palette that he uses - organ, piano, string bass, lo-fi percussion - and the aura of bleak beauty recall Talk Talk's classic Spirit of Eden album (in fact some of the same musicians crop up). There is little harmonic development in Clemo's atmospheric pieces - instead, clusters of sounds coalesce and disperse over hypnotic rhythms. After the epic brooding opener, The Place, the album struggles to come up with anything quite as good - until the lovely Taking a Hand, with vocals from Chloe Goodfield. You could call the music post-rock, even minimalism. Whichever, it deserves a wide hearing.
