On which Eno sings! I thought that the clutch of influential rock albums turned out by the man post Roxy Music would be the last time I’d hear Eno the vocalist, rather than Eno the experimental instrumentalist and some-time Bowie collaborator, or Eno the mega-man of rock, producer to the stars. And do you know what? It’s great to have him back.

The years since he last turned his tonsils to the mike have been kind to his voice, which still touches with its untrained purity, while his knack with a pop tune is as canny as ever. The 11 tracks here evoke the contemplative Eno of Another Green World, and his enduring love of sharp internal rhymes is evident from the first bars of the opening track, This. Elsewhere, on How Many Worlds, he layers instrument upon instrument over the simplest of basic melodies, while slowly building soundscapes such as Passing Over recall Eno the producer’s favourite clients, James. The last track, Bonebomb, wraps things up with a bang, leaving you stunned into silence. Just as Eno intended. Welcome back Brian.
