The line-up for this summer’s Glastonbury festival has been leaked on the internet, two days before the full list of performers was due to be announced.
Music magazine NME’s website today boasted it had a “world exclusive” and listed the Raconteurs, Shakin’ Stevens and Panic At The Disco among the acts to play at the three-day Somerset festival.
According to the report, American hip-hop star Jay-Z will play the main Pyramid stage on Saturday night, with the American favourites Kings of Leon occupying the slot on Friday, and long-celebrated British band the Verve taking over on Sunday.
American act Panic at the Disco will headline The Other Stage on Friday, with Bristol innovators Massive Attack playing on Saturday, and dance Kings Groove Armada on Sunday.
Glastonbury organisers planned to announce the full line-up at midnight on Tuesday. They did not immediately return calls today.
The leak is the latest in a long line of misfortunes to befall this year’s event. Organisers have faced a barrage of criticism after choosing Jay-Z as the festival’s headliner.
High-profile musicians, including Oasis member Noel Gallagher, have asked why the festival has chosen a hip-hop act instead of continuing its rock tradition.
"If it ain't broke don't fix it. If you start to break it then people aren't going to go,” Gallagher complained.
“I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music and even when they throw the odd curve ball in on a Sunday night you go 'Kylie Minogue?' I don't know about it. But I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong."
Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has defended the choice.
“Jay-Z is far from the first hip-hop artist to perform at Glastonbury, as one might assume from some strangely hysterical press reports."
While tickets have sold out within hours in previous years, this year sales were down.
After 37,500 tickets were left unpurchased, organisers were forced to reopen registration.

jay z looks like the only good act amongst a bunch of indentikit 30something male indie guitar strummers. yawn
mms, london , uk
I am glad that all the moaners are not going to Glastonbury this year. Hopefully this means that we can get to one stage from the other without tripping up on collapsable chairs! Besides there is much more going on, live a bit people, experience somthing new!
Christine, Shankill, Dublin
Glastonbury is far too commercial now! in terms of music i think there are some great bands playing this year, but not sure theres any great headliners.....i say bring back ORBITAL. they were great...
Paul, Derbyshire, UK
who cares, Glastonbury's days are numbered. Too commercial now and the bands are getting worse. Jay what ?
dave, london, UK
Jay-Ze gets slated but Shakin' Stevens passes without comment?
Pretty good line up all told.... . . I'd go if it wasn't so expensive and I didn't always end up trollied ina field missing every act i wanted to see
Chris da Pink, Chorley,
The line-up shows Glasto has now truly become an urbam middle-class, thirtysomething away weekend. The addition of Jay-Z shows an alarming lack of awareness of the Glasto audience and Shakin Stevens is beyond irony, just really, really sad.
John W, London,
What a boring conventional country we live in where we can't have a Hip Hop artist playing the main stage without a load of sad old farts complaining. How many guitars do you want exactly? Nearly every other group has one. I'd like to see less guitars and more originality. Racism rears its ugly hed.
Bryan, bracknell, United Kingdom
Well at least no-one is complaining about a bit of Aussie Hip Hop - the Hilltop Hoods!
MC, London,
Did that comment mention "Jay-to-the-zee" and "innovation"...?
Ummmmmm.....doubt that but interesting!!!
Kay Warren, Kenilworth,
I would prefer to see the Verve to Jay-Z. I mean, Jigga just doesn't seem to fit the list of artists performing. Oh well, I am sure it'll be a smashing time.
Kyle, McDonald, U.S. of A.
Could 'The Teenagers' be the worst band name of all time?
Jon, Coventry, UK
Jay-Z has worked with "guitar music" artists, lest anyone forget. His music is progressive, so no need to shout him down! Doesn't anyone remember his songs with Linkin Park and Chris Martin??
Laura, London,
Absolutely chuffed that we bought a house in Reading 2 years ago, and get spoilt with a ROCK festival proper, that may now overshadow the behemoth Glastonbury regarding acts this year...
A few are playing both events and look forward to catching both The Enemy and We Are Scientists again. Right on
Niels Christiansen, Reading, UK
Wonder how many tickets were left to sell when this got leaked...
Alistair Kipling, Birmingham,
If Glastonbury just stuck to rock music then Orbital and the Prodigy wouldn't have played their superb sets there. Music is about innovation, and that means trying out new ideas that not everyone will like.
Luke Nicolaides, London, UK
Very, very disappointing.
James, London,
This is the best line up we have had for years! some of the superstar bands people expect are well past it. Oasis? get over yourselves. when was the last time you made any good music, 15 years ago?
James, London,
Very special guest TBC = Beyoncé?
Kel, Hale, Cheshire,
this is the worst glastonbury line up ever. go to reading festival instead!
tom lewis, northampton, england
I thought Crowded House were from New Zealand. Plus Jay Z is going to be awesome, how can you praise an experimental lineup and in the next sentence say 'ignore the rap rubbish'!
Good line up,i'm excited.
Tony Rebel, Sydney, Australia
Jay-Z may be about the best rapper going now but I am embarrassed to say I agree with Gallagher. What next............'Spice GIrls' re-union !! So much really cool stuff sidelined
(elves will be overdosing on pixie dust and Glastonbury will never be the same again and I for one will not be going).
Johnny Lava, Beijing, PROC
crowded house is a New Zealand band!
Charlotte, London,
23 "The..."??? Is this the work of the Illuminati???
Sebastian, Perth,
blimey what an excellent line up and a real experiential mix. Vampire Weekend, The Verve, Foals, Crowded House and Scouting 4 Girls. Ignore the headline rap rubbish, the rest of the acts are fresh and will really show off the best of new British music, and Crowded are the best Oz band. Open your ears, is's new music!
