An attempt will be made to break an eerie world record at one of the UK's major festivals this summer.
Revellers at the Big Chill in August are invited to be extras in the shooting of I Spit On Your Rave, a collaboration between Warp Films and Film4.
In the process it is hoped the record for the largest gathering of zombies will be broken.
A spokesman for the festival said the largest official "zombie walk" was set in Nottingham on Halloween last year when 1,227 people donned torn clothes and smeared flour over their faces in the Old Market Square.
The spokesman added that 3,370 are believed to have gathered for such an event in the American state of Michigan last year although he said there are doubts over whether it was officially recorded.
I Spit On Your Rave is set nine years in the future with mankind extinct after a virus is released at the 2012 Olympics.
With regard to the film's concept, a spokesman for the Big Chill festival, said: "Zombies have taken over the world but, like their human ancestors, they are partial to a party - especially a summer festival."
The main scene for the "mockumentary"-style film, which is being directed by Chris Boyle, will be filmed on Thursday August 6 and festival goers are being urged to turn up in costume for filming at the box offices on site.
Vats of make-up will be at hand for anybody not resembling the undead when they arrive at the festival in Eastnor Castle, Ledbury, Herefordshire.
A short clip of the main scene will be shown at the end of the festival on Sunday August 9 before being released online, giving people the chance to see whether they made it to the silver screen, or the cutting room floor.
Katrina Larkin, The Big Chill Co-Founder, said: "When Film4 first approached us it took us about a week to stop laughing at various Big Chill zombie scenarios.
"Now the festival draws closer we are relishing the challenge to produce our own zombie movie and bring out our inner zombie.
"Usually it's what we look like by the Monday morning anyway!"
