• Bruce Springsteen cost the festival organiser Michael Eavis £3,000 when his set breached the 12.30am curfew by nine minutes. Mr Eavis said: “I gave him ten minutes and he took nine. I’ll pay the fine, £3,000. Paul McCartney — 2004 headliner — paid me back. I’m going to pay the Bruce Springsteen one myself. It’s not a lot, because it was fantastic. The last nine minutes were spectacular.”
A festival spokesman said: “There are limits because a lot of people live near by.”
• A woman who went into labour on Saturday afternoon missed out on giving birth to the first festival baby since 1998 after she was persuaded to leave the festival site and have her child in a nearby hospital. It is understood that the woman wanted to give birth to the child in the Green Fields area of the Glastonbury site, which is known for its “healing field” and alternative practitioners. A spokeswoman for the Green Fields area told Q magazine’s onsite paper that the woman “went to the garden where the healing angel is, to sit in a dome which is a sacred place connected to the Earth”.
• Crime was down on the first three days of the festival, said Avon and Somerset police, with 401 offences. There were 145 arrests, of which 123 were for drugs.
