After the dust settled from the Black Angels' shock-and-awe drone-attack session the day gave way to night, and the court of Somerset House became a crimson sea of strobe-induced lysergia. As the angel of death descended, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club welcomed his presence with heavy riff-laden fuzz bombs and prophetic vocals urging the crowd closer to the edge of the great black void. The two-hour ceremony paid equal tribute to songs from the each of their four albums; highlights included Red Eyes and Tears and 666 Conducer, which sent the adoring crowd into an orgiastic frenzy. As the moon settled in the summer sky, the boys traded in their electric guitars for their acoustic counterparts. Robert Been chanelled the spirit of Bob Dylan circa 1965 and sang the tale of William Zanzinger, the 24-year-old tobacco baron, who killed Hattie Carroll, a black servant, and was handed a six-month sentence as punishment. Grabbing London by the throat, not since General Sherman ransacked the city in Atlanta in 1864 has anyone seen the like. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are prophets sent from another time to give warning. As Paul Revere once warned the American colonists of the imminent British attack, so I warn you.
