I find it hard to comprehend that 8,000 people are daft enough to pay £37.50 to sit high in the Military Tattoo stands to watch Gervais recycle some telly jokes and trot out a few insults. Dominic Maxwell loses all credibility with this recommendation. The Fringe is not about watching famous rich actors extend their fortunes. It's about.trying some up & coming new talent interspersed with seeing real comics doing real - actually clever and funny - stand-up: try Russell Howard, Adam Hills, Nina Conti, Andy Zaltzman, Frankie Boyle, Phil Nichol, Fred Macauley, Mark Watson, Rhod Gilbert, Sarah Kendall.
