So you think you know all there is to know about Hamlet and Horatio, Edgar and Edmund and, of course, that tragic nubile Juliet?

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has come up with a way to find out for sure.

To mark William Shakespeare’s birthday, the RSC has devised an online quiz to test the public’s knowledge of the famous bard.

Jacqui O'Hanlon, RSC’s Learning Head of Professional Development, said she suspects people will score higher than they expect to.

“I think people will be really surprised at just how much they do know. Shakespeare is the only writer studied by all school children in England and his influence is extremely wide-reaching.”

Those who take part have a chance to win tickets to watch famous Shakespeare devotees test their knowledge.

On April 29, RSC will host a quiz in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, pitting Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian McKellen against the likes of Sinead Cusack and Juliet Stevenson.

Born on April 23, 1564, O’Hanlon said it is important to continue to celebrate Sharkespeare’s birthday.

“In terms of England's cultural heritage he is one of the most important figures in our history and it's important that his contribution is acknowledged.”
