David Tennant's incarnation as Doctor Who has been voted the coolest TV character.
The time-travelling doctor beat federal agent Jack Bauer, played in the hit US show 24 by Kiefer Sutherland, to second place.
Christopher Eccleston, 43, the actor Tennant, 35, replaced as the doctor on the BBC sci-fi show, did not make the top 10.
The poll for radiotimes.com was conducted to find the coolest character - defined as laidback and sexy - on TV.
The Fonz in the Seventies TV show Happy Days, played by Henry Winkler, now 61, came third.
Colin Firth's heart-fluttering turn as Mr Darcy in the TV adaptation of Jane Austen favourite Pride And Prejudice is fourth, followed by The Cat in Eighties comedy series Red Dwarf, brought to life by Danny John-Jules.
No women made it into the top 10 list, voted for by more than 4,000 TV fans.
Sixth place went to chauvinist DCI Gene Hunt in Life On Mars, played by Philip Glenister, while his politically correct fellow cop Sam Tyler does not get a look-in.
Big Brother's Little Brother host Dermot O'Leary, in seventh position, was the only non-fictional character to make it into the top 10, while The Magic Roundabout's stoned rabbit Dylan (ninth) is the sole animated character.
Others in the top 10 include Columbo (Peter Falk) and Sawyer in Lost (Josh Holloway).
Radio Times deputy TV editor David Butcher said: "David Tennant is so hugely popular as the Doctor - he looks like becoming a bit of an icon.
"There are surprises on the list, like the fact the top 10 is all male.

Agree? Disagree? Let us know
hes the hottest coolest most perfectist guy on TV
Future Mrs Tennant, Lundun,
Tennant is certainly a talented actor--but "hot??" Erm---?
He's playing the coolest role on television, so being voted the coolest guy isn't that big a stretch.
Nancy, Glens Falls, USA NY
Not only is he the coolest man on t.v- he's alsothe hottest! I'm 100% in lve with him! I never want him to leave Doct Who! Love ya David! xxx
Ell, Segefied, durham
I think he is brilliant, he is the cooliest most fabutastic person in the world :D
I think he is genuinly nice and think that saying he has "Little or no sex appeal" is wrond puts cross face on.
He is my new obsession and i love putting pics of him on my msn.
Mollie, UK,
I would agree that David Tennant and Philip Glenister as Gene Hunt are both really cool and should both be at the No.1 spot. However, does anyone agree that David Tennant and Richard Hammond look alike, so maybe Richard Hammond should be on the cool list too.
Lynne Harrington, Navestock, Romford, Essex
David Tennant is a fantastic actor ,the BBc are very very lucky to have such a star ! Where have they been hiding him all these years?
I am 46 and whatched bits of Dr Who as a child but wasn't hooked until now with David playing The Dr! Wow he is gorgeous.
Can't wait for the new series, I'll be in every Saturday nighy ,ou can guarantee that. Keep up the fantastic work David you are so appreciated!
THANYOU. xxx

when Christopher Eccleston's Doctor left the series I was disappointed, I watched mouth gaping open for that split second when I forgot that it's not real.
Then David Tennant stepped up to the plate. The last scenes with the Doctor and Rose moved me, I shouted a frustrated 'no!' and threw things at the t.v (thank god its not Whoverse and the t.v didn't fight back). I found the dynamic between the two, always present, but electric in that scene made the entire series. Why am I revealing my deep inner geek? Because Tennant's Who IS the coolest character on television! His passion and enthusiasm makes the show and his acting ability cannot be questioned! Did anyone see 'Recovery', an amazing piece of acting! The slightly manic side of the Doctor is intriguing, but the Timelord has seen worlds end, he's lived in battle, I find the sharp edges exciting and the character charming and believable, plus a Doctor in Pinstripe and converse? Fantastic!

I'm with Carla St. Clair of Liverpool ~ David Tennant's Dr. Who is okay, but Christopher Eccleston was a much better Doctor. Funnier, more compassionate, more fair, more emotionally invested, etc. etc. Of course, it didn't help Tenant that so many of the episodes in the second series/season didn't have the substance of most of those in the first. Still, even at that, I wish SciFi would get off whatever they're sitting on and play series/season 3 over hear. Wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of Capt. Jack either, though a lot of his appeal was the way the three of them interacted together.

David Tennant. Cool, witty, sexy, a superbly talented actor and he seems a genuinely decent human being.
What's not to admire?
Harriet, Sydney, Australia
David Tennant, not the coolest in my opinion. a smug little man with little or no sex appeal. am I the only one brave enough to burst the bubble.
sophie, brighton,
David Tennant, absolutely! True to the classic, yet makes the role his own. I agree w/ Linda: he projects an easygoing naturalness, unlike CE's usual fake "sexy" histrionics.
It's always a plus when an actor is not only good at his job, but seems a genuinely nice person...
carla g., oeterborough, ontario
ok so Jack Bauer is the second coolest tv character but Kiefer Sutherland is the coolest man on the planet
sorcha, dublin,
David Tennant. Followed his dream to be an actor and hasn't let fame change him like it has most celebrities.
Linda, Fife,
Gene Hunt is much cooler than David Tennant's Doctor
and Christopher Eccleston was a much better doctor!
Carla St Clair, Liverpool, UK
Jack Bauer beats people unconscious to get his information. The Doctor rarely if ever beats anyone unconscious. Who's got the better talent?
Blake Moorcroft, Windsor, Ontario
The Fonz, Dylan, Columbo and Cat in the Top 10?
Internet randomness demonstrated!

I could not agree more. David Tennant: laidback, sexy, lovely, talented and a sheer delight.
