They have become the glamorous faces of domestic bliss. But Nigella Lawson has rounded on her American rival, Martha Stewart, in a public and acrimonious spat.
The British TV chef claimed that Stewart had a “soft spot” for her husband, the multimillionaire art collector, Charles Saatchi, and had tried to disparage her.
The feud began when Lawson came to prominence in the US. Stewart, sensing that her English counterpart represented a threat to her position as America’s domestic guru, dismissed her rival as “what’s her name who married the Saatchi”. Media commentators speculated that Lawson had gone to America after Stewart, once named the third-most-powerful woman in the country, fell from grace on being convicted and jailed for stock market fraud in 2004.
In this week’s edition of the Radio Times, Lawson claimed that Stewart, 66, had “insecurities”. She said: “I know her, and I suspect she has a soft spot for Charles. I’m sorry that even though she’s so great and successful she has to disparage someone else. It’s not necessary, but everyone has his or her insecurities. You should try to keep them to yourself and behave in a confident way.”
Lawson, 47, admitted to having her own insecurities, about her weight. And in the interview, to promote her new 13-part BBC Two series, Nigella Express, she acknowledged that her chat show, launched on ITV1 in 2005, had been unsuccessful. “I knew it wasn’t me,” she said. “On the first show, I was so frightened I thought I’d never come out of my dressing room.”

And here's a word from Cape Town, South Africa!...We just salivate when we watch gloriously voluptuous Nigella - whether it's the food she makes...or the way she tastes it!

NIgella is educated, literate, culutred and intelligent. Although she could, she never acts snobby. She is a mother and a real woman who has had more than her share of pain in her life.
Her class particularly shines when compared with rude, loud TV hosts such as Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Kelly Ripa, who have no idea how to handle this lovely, refined lady.
Nigella is one of my heroes and someone I would love to call a friend.
Melissa, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
I love Nigella! She's grounded, poised, and honest. She would beat old sour Martha in a battle-off any day! I have no idea what you are talking about, Asha from Latham, she was punished because she is a woman?! Your commentary is bit scattered, almost senseless, oi vey!
Catherine, Grand Rapids, Michigan
I've watched both of these women many times and quite frankly, Nigella is far more refined and ladylike than Martha. Martha is a hard charging type x personality and try as she may, she is not as sophisticated as Nigella. I do not apologize for my opinions, either. I am American (and proud) but do not feel it matters where you are from; It matters how you behave and Martha has a lot of miles on her; she has a veneer that gives her her "difficult" reputation. Have you seen her daughter on Larry King? She is as nasty and as rude as any girl could be. Chip off the old block?
Sarah, Chicago, Illinois
MS lawson "get real" Martha is NOT intrested in your husband.
She has a nice friend of her ouw. You just want headlines.
Next to Julia Child - Martha is #2 You can't come close.

As an American, I find Nigella appealing, watchable, and warm--compared to Martha, who comes across (to me) as cold, upper-crust, stiff, and unlikeable.
Ken, Central, CA, USA
Come on! Nobody can beat Martha. She is everything anybody can be. She is not insecure. She is like very ordinary home grown women with compassion. Martha does not need anybodyâs sympathy. Everybody knows she was punished because she was women. We are liberated but don't forget we don't have a women president here. Women are free but.. Don't get me wrong I do like English and Europe but on this one I would choose Martha I have seen her since 1982. Sorry Folks, who have the wrong impression about Martha. Thanks .
Asha, Latham, NY
There is no competition between Nigella and Martha. Nigella wins hands down. Nigella who is English, refined and beautiful. If I was a man I know who I would prefer.
Jodie, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire
Hardly an 'acrimonious spat', is it? Dear Nigella sounds as though she has been her usual dignified and polite self.
And let's not feel too sorry for Martha - Nigella neither pretends to be perfect, or expects others to be, and has never served time for fraud!
