Heather Mills spoke to GMTV’s Fiona Phillips and Andrew Castle this morning.
Fiona Phillips: Right, Heather Mills is in the studio, at her own request and she’s had enough really haven’t you?
Heather Mills: I’ve had 18 months of absolute abuse and they tried to ruin my daughter’s birthday party which I spent ages organizing, saying I killed the dog next door.
FP: This was in yesterday’s Sun wasn’t it?
HM: Complete rubbish. I ended up being in contact with the lady. She’d said, to get something out of The Sun that the dog had had a heart-attack. I chased back to the vet Tim and he said, ‘What a load of rubbish! The dog had been ill for a while and dies of abdominal catastrophe on Sunday night. Twenty-four hours after the party because a friend of mine put some fireworks on as a surprise for my daughter. Which all the village knew about and came to. Everything they write is complete rubbish.
FP: And this was £10,000 worth of fireworks!
HM: Can you imagine?! What a lovely friend!
FP: And according to today’s papers, it’s only little snippets, you spent over £100,000 on Beatrice’s fourth birthday.
HM: Oh yes, that’s right. They said I banned cameras. Everybody had cameras. I banned mobile phones. I just have friends that don’t sell their pictures to newspapers. That woman that did the story on the dog, if she’s so upset, why is she standing there posing for The Sun the day her dog died? What I just want to do is clear up a few things. For six years, when I lost my leg, I was the model that overcame adversity, inspired other amputees to get on with their lives. Front page of all the newspapers. The Sun, ‘Model of Courage’. They serialised my book. I told my whole life story in my book. It all went to charity. The Sun had it there. I talked about my glamour modeling when I was a teenager. I wanted to be the Marie Whittaker, the Linda Lusardi, the Samantha Fox, that was the thing to be in the 80s, I was a teenager. Then they eliminate now my whole 20 years of my life of campaigning and put in things like, ‘Hard Core Porn Queen’. All this disgusting stuff from my topless days. And then the poor guy who did this book called ‘Joy For Sex’, basically gets this much of an apology, because they call his book a ‘Hard Core Porn’ thing. It’s so ridiculous. Paul knew about my glamour modeling. It was in the papers every week for the three years that we were engaged and they try and say ‘they broke up because she’s a glamour model’. It is such lies.
FP: So what are you going to do?
HM: Just like I changed the law with some like-minded people, anyone that wants to help go to Youk.com. and you’ll see how you can help and sign a petition. I need to get everyone to petition that they don’t want to be lied to anymore by the press, they want their children to grow up in a society where press is just and fair and the size of the lie that they print is the size of the apology that they have to print. They have to reveal their made up sources and their so-called friends unless it’s a criminal situation. Because they make up such lies. They’ve called me a whore, a gold-digger, a fantasist, a liar, the most unbelievably hurtful things. I’ve stayed quiet for my daughter. We’ve had death threats, I’ve been close to suicide. I’m so upset about this (crying). I’ve had worse threats than a paedophile or a murderer and I’ve done nothing but charity for 20 years. I came on here talking about vegetarianism 15 years ago. I sat here and Dr Hilary Jones said ‘She’s crazy, she’s talking about wheatgrass and giving up meat and dairy’. And then they want to write that I just suddenly make up vegetarianism to please Paul. You’ve got footage. Find it, show it. Everyone has jumped on the band wagon. My sister was crying her eyes out because that awful Jordan and Peter Andre did a joke on Sunday and I’ve had six amputee girls crying their eyes out because they’re getting bullied at school because people are joking about the loss of my limb. Jonathan Ross said ‘She’s such an effing liar. We’ll find out she’s got two legs instead of one.’ I have protected my husband. I know everything and I know the truth. I even got an apology, because the judge pushed for it when they said that my petition was a lie. And the size of the apology? ‘We’re sorry. We now accept that the judge did not throw out any of her claims, she was not portrayed as a liar in court and did not erupt with rage.’
FP: Alright, but there will be people at home saying that at the beginning Heather, you did use the press so…

Heather's not perfect neither is Paul neither am I and probably neither are you! But as she says she is not a murderer or a paedophile.
She has done more good than most of us and probably made more mistakes than most of us.
Why are we so interested? Because she's an amputee? Because she married and divorced an icon? Shame on us. Paul McCartney is big enough and old enough to look after himself. Leave them to it.
Its not nice to call any mother the names that she gets called. No woman wants her sexual youth back to haunt her once she's a mother. Who does it benefit?
Paula, Northallerton, North Yorkshire
I never write in on these matters, but I feel it is really awful how heather is being treated and how the press can abuse and interfer in peoples lifes.
She has a right to a private divorce, the worst thing about this situation is, if you were in her shoes, regardless to whether or not she is hounding for half his fortune, none of you who are against her would walk away without a penny!! But because you are not her and not in line for millions, your bitter and cant stand she might get a load of cash.
She does so many causes for charity and for the good, we have so few people doing this and we dont even appreciate them.
Also she is very right to compare herself to the mckanns and Princess Diana, because it dosent matter that the situation is different, its about the press and there abuse of people. Shes right the press did kill diana, no matter what happened, if it wasnt for the paparazi should would not have been in a hurry,
wait untill they're on your back.....!!
leon, Birmingham, united kingdom
This woman has a right to a divorce settlement and to now be
left alone to raise her daughter without constant stalking by
the press and abuse from the British public that does not
know anything about private matters in her marriage. Why
don't you people get off her back? This is NOT making Paul
McCartney sympathetic that while he is trying to settle with
her she is being hassled by all these unknown people into
a nervous breakdown. Who has the most to gain from her
emotional problems right now? Press and public, leave her
alone. We aren't interested anymore!!!!! This is not helping
Paul McCartney's image at all, he has done nothing to
protect this woman or his daughter from all this harassment.
Reg Cholonas, Washington D.C., USA
Luckily I'm not subject to the British media, so I've only known little bits and pieces of this story. But my immediate impression on reading this transcript is of a person who really is at the end of her tether. She seems to have been under a lot of stress and maybe has made some mistakes in her life. Just an ordinary person, but in the eye of the media. Give her a break, for goodness sake.
Lyn Sanderson, Prague, Czech Republic
It's hard to know what the real truth is here, but in cases like this it's usually a matter of who's lying the least. Paul clearly did not marry a submissive woman, and he must have known this going in, as she never portrayed herself as anything but an outspoken firecracker. I guess that was okay with him until the relationship broke down and he became a target. She's obviously difficult and headstrong, he's spoiled and controlling, not a great match!
Deanna, Horseheads, NY
Heather wanted fame and celebrity, now she has it, she no longer wants it. Silly woman!
Ray B, Newcastle, UK
Heather is clearly unhinged and what will her daughter feel when she is older and sees her mother making an absolute fool of herself in public like this. Any Social Worker worth their salt should be worried about that little girls welfare in this womans care. She need psychiatric help if she thinks she is helping her cause with this kind of ranting.
I just feel so very sorry for the little girl who does not deserve this kind of thing in her life.
Ella Watson, Worthing, United Kingdom
Heather,
Why are you still using the name "McCartney" on your website? Why don't you get on with your OWN life??
Jay Hagan, Kentfield, CA, Usa
Don't know either Heather or Paul so have no comment except that the media are a bunch of disgusting, mud raking liars who only want the gore and dirt whether it's correct or not.
I only agree with Heather on that point.
Jane, Adelaide, Australia
Heather is a woman who deserves to be left alone if not for her, then for her daughter. she is no different to any other woman who has split with their partner. who says we or the papers have right to be judge and jury. Why is Paul not protecting his daughter, by protecting Heather, like any decent man would.
Joanne T, cambridge, England
It's nonsense to say that Heather Mills is comparing herself to Princess Diana and Kate McCann in any other way than saying that she is being harrassed by the press! You can't really believe what your saying! It's just plain old fashioned bullying. Heather Mills is a person with a troubled past and a lot of problems, including serious health problems, and no amount of money makes you any more able to cope with being hounded by the british media.
The vast majority of popular journalism in this country is disgusting, low, bullying, lies designed to sell newspapers by allowing certain members of the public to vicariously enjoy being nasty and snide about people they have never met and do not know a thing about!
I for one have had enough of it, It's not the sort of thing I want my children to grow up with! Do you?
Bianca, London, UK
I dont think she was using the death of princess Diana and the Mcanns as a comparable example of loss, just the fact that the press were implicated in Diana's death and the Mcanns are facing all sorts of press allegations........
GMTV was not the best choice as a media soap box but I think she got her point across very well.
We have it down to a fine art of building people in the spotlight up and then knocking them down which is completely wrong.
There seems to be this insatiable appetite for celebrity gossip on who is wearing what clothes, eating what diet, suffering from cellulite, sleeping with......etc...... there are far more important things in this world.
We also see Mr Mcartney as some kind of saint because he was in the Beatles and regarded as some kind of national treasure, there are two sides to every story...........
They should be left alone to get on with it, lets face it none of us would like our 'dirty washing' to be exposed in public.
Kevin, Leeds, United Kingdom
I seen many articles in the press about Heather and heard many TV presenters mentions her - (usually with a cruel joke). It wouldn't surprise me that there are over 4000 abusive articles about her. However, this is the first time in all those years I've heard her speak about how it is to be on the receiving end. Yes, she was very emotional - but I'm incredulous at how much people seem to dislike this woman. What has she done to be hated so? Why don't people believe she has a right to reply and put her side forward? I saw with interest that the press immediately twisted her words the next day and misquoted her to vilify her further.
Certain members of the press do lie. They have printed lies about the McCanns and they did print lies about Princess Diana. Heather Mills' point was that they should not be allowed to knowingly lie about people and hound them even to death.
Sign her sisters petition at www.youcare.com - regardless of whether you like her or not - she has a point.
Paula Place, Northallerton, UK
Good on you Heather - I don't understand why we accept what we read about celebrities as THE TRUTH . It is purely gossip dressed up as the truth. I didn't hear her compare herself to the McCanns and Princess Di - I heard her compare the behaviour of certain parts of the tabloid media in their treatment of her to the treatment of those women. And she is right. I do not know her. My guess is things are neither 100% the way she recounts it but neither is what the tabloids say 100% truth at all. And yet it is presented that way and we believe it. Why is it ok to be 'stalked' by photographers and why is it ok to have half truths peddled as accurate without the right to reply? Surely we are a more civilised society than one which engages in a witch hunt towards an innocent person just because our newspaper of choice reports their story in a a certain way?
Pauline Lucas, Stevenage,
Just watched the Heather Mills one sided interview. What a load of tosh. If she doesn't like the publicity then stop seeking it out. I just cannot understand GMTV giving her so much air time with such a so called "interview". How dare she compare herself to Princess Diana and the McCanns they are losses that she cannot comprehend at all. It just goes to show how she thinks of herself in her own mind. I can remember what she was like from years ago and she certainly was no angel with the publicity she got then, and now since she losing her leg in an accident, marrying a Beatle she has suddenly become this 'celebrity'. Absolute joke!
Jan Simmonds, Kent, England
Hey Heather.......
Would you like some cheese with that "whine"??
Kathy, New York, NY USA
Poor Heather - only 300 friends at a party! What a joke she has made of her life since marrying Paul. True love (?) doesn't last long these days. Just get on with it Heather and stop whining.
Jerry Charlesworth , Melbourne, Australia
'Precious on-air time'... Ha ha, thanks for the laugh Susanne! This was GMTV, the equivalent of watching paint dry in this country, or FOX News in your country.
Brian, Liverpool,
Heather was CLEARLY pushed to the edge this morning. I saw the whole thing and was very shocked. I have much more sympathy for her.
kristin , Manchester, Uk
I total support Heather Mills and I think it is about time that a celebrity /ties fight against the garbage that we are fed each day. UK and the world are consumed with the media dictating what we read. But the again people should act with there feet and pocket and not read total trash. No one likes to be known as a gossip but everyday we are fed this gossip and we start to be believe this to be the truth. When you speak to the youth of today they are consumed with celebrity life, Britney, Paris, lady Diana, Kate McCann these are just examples. We must stop this and as a nation respond to responsible honest media and not the fabrications that we read. I am 100% behind heather and this quest
claudette campbell, london, London
Susanne from Houston, USA, I don't think Heather was comparing her situation to Mrs McCann or Princess Diana, I think the comparisson being drawn was at media treatment. Some of the press in our country are out of control, they are allowed to do and say what they like about anybody, from our royal family to ordinary people, almost completely without consequence.
They regularly conduct witch hunts and nobody ever tries to stop them. I am amazed at the comments I have read about Heather today, I have no idea what she is like because I have never met her or spoken to her. People are forming judgements about her based on media reporting, what else could you be basing your remarks on.
Has anyone ever said a cruel word to you or been insulting in a poison post? Did it hurt? Well magnify that a million times and you are not even close. How hurt would you be? Regardless of the person is it right to have these witch hunts regularly held by our press? It affects peoples lives.
Fiona Mont, UK,
I think you'll find that Heather's petition can be found at Youcare.com - rather than youk.com. I think that you may have transcribed her northern accent wrongly.
Ric Adams, Wallington, UK
Heather Mills could simply accept a divorce settlement - take Paul's money and disappear into the background BUT she would have to sign a confidentiality agrrement and she doesn't want to do that because she wants to "sell her story" about her marriage to ... the Press. She can't have it both ways and I agree with previous emails, her losing a leg and a getting dirvorced from a rich husband cannot be compared to the McCanns and Princess Diana. Her tears are crocodile and her ranting is deluded. Heather, take a leaf out of Camilla's book of composure and grace whilst in the firing line!
Denise, Hove,
Princess Diana lost her life. Kate McCann lost her child. Heather lost her husband. There's NO comparison here, so do not flatter yourself, Heather. People who don't want to be chased don't use the media i.e., going on television to give a ' " one sided account ," ' of what has been going on if they honestly don't want the attention. Frankly, I'm surprised the programme gave her such a huge amount of precious on-air time to throw what amounted to, a tantrum by a spoiled brat.
Susanne, Houston, USA
