The Welsh singer at the centre of a television love triangle has been voted off reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.
Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews left the Australian jungle last night to find the evicted actor she had flirted with throughout the show was not there to greet her.
Marc Bannerman, who had a long-term girlfriend when he entered the jungle, was expected to fly to Australia to meet Matthews when she was voted off the show. However, after a week of turmoil, in which his partner actress Sarah Matravers left him and sold a damning story to a tabloid, Bannerman decided to remain in the UK.
This morning, Matthews told GMTV she was “surprised” Bannerman was not there to meet her when she emerged from 19 days in the jungle.
Speaking from Queensland, she told interviewer Kate Garraway: “I was a little surprised because I had a letter saying that he might come and greet me. But actually, I think it’s probably a very good idea. Things in the jungle are so intense, your emotions are really raw and I really just want to relax, see to my kids who are amazing and gorgeous and get home safely and take things real slow.”
Asked if she wanted to see Bannerman, the singer responded: “Yeah, definitely”.
Matthews went on to defend her relationship with the former EastEnders actor: “Well first of all we’re 11 people in a really intense situation. In all innocence, we were getting on really well as friends - it was me, Anna, Mark. He was friendly to everybody, he was generous, wanted to help everybody out. And the moment when our friendship was getting a little bit intense, we pulled back a little because we didn’t want hurt anybody.”
Bannerman, who was evicted a week ago, had earlier written to the singer telling her he would come back to Australia if she wanted him to.
"There are many problems in London and I've had to go back to try and sort them out - but I may well return to greet you when you come out, if that is your wish. Marc," he wrote.
She responded: "I'd love him to come out if that's what he thinks is a good idea, because he knows all the answers now."
There are now only three contestants left in the jungle. Actor Christopher Biggins, former boyband Jason “J” Brown and the woman who claims to have been the world’s first supermodel - Janice Dickinson, are competing to win tonight’s final.

First I am so happy for Biggins,he is a wonderful chap.Today in the sunday paper,Marc is in hideing,he is a mixed up guy,and hurt two women along the way.I hope he has lost them both. sue, derbyshire
sue, derby,
Janice was recognised as being straightforward as opposed to Biggins and friends talking about her behind her back. How embarrassing for Franks, Atkinson and co that an American comes second.

I'm an incurable romantic, so I hope Cerys and Marc make a go of it. By the way, who is voting for Janice?? Has the UK gone man? Biggins for King!

I actually think he's got everything he deserves. Good on Sarah for trying to give him a taste of what humiliation feels like. He knew he had a commitment before he went into the jungle and should have respected it. Cerys also knew he had a commitment and should have had more consideration for her family. Does she really want to end up with an inconsiderate idiot who publically embarrassed someone he was supposed to love? Ask yourselves how you would feel if your partner had done it to you.
Bev, Birmingham,
Mark Bannerman didn't actually do anything that bad. Maybe if the idiots hadn't voted him out he would have and it would have been interesting to see what transpired. So what if he did fall for Cerys? His screwball girlfriend has shown she is a mentalist so I dont blame him. He wasnt in there falling for the page 3 glamour girlie with the big tits. There really was a genuine spark between him and Cerys. I think its a real shame that he missed out on the party and greeting Cerys when she came out. I think he is trying to be a good guy and not cause any more hurt, but he should just ride out the storm and see where this thing with Cerys takes him. I really hope for the best for them. I would love to see them get together. He is a lovely bloke. I feel sorry for what his nutcase girlfriend is putting him through.

Mark andCerys simply fell in love. It wasnt planned to hurt anyone but it happened. Is hard enough to hide those feelings in normal daily life let alone when your in the jungle and segregated from society.
I wish them all the very best!

I completely agree I think its been dramatized a lot more with the short footage we have been shown , I don't agree with how he did it but there was no where near as much insight when Jordan got with Peter or Preston got with Chantelle! I hate how this man has been forced to keep his head down cos his ex is a nut job, She has blatantly conjured up this story as a ploy to mess up Marc if this really was true why stay with him all this time! Women like that really annoy me talk about degrade yourself. I say good luck with Cery's! shes fab..and don't hide away!

Marc was a little nieve 2 have put himself in the position that he has. Based on Sarah's story maybe he did himself a favour as she has shown her true colours by going on a media revenge fest. She obviously lapped up the attention and did it totally undignified. When Preston and Chantelle fell for each other in the BB house, his girlfriend stepped back and remained out of the limelight. Sarah has done herself no favours with the high profile response to his behaviour, no matter what she does from here she'll be remembered for wanting to throttle her man, cut off his kangaroos n 4 selling her story in revenge for 30 pieces of silver. At least Prestons ex will be remembered 4 walking away with dignity.
I'm not excusing what Marc did because he was out of order . However, I think it was dramatized more out here by Sarah running around the Australian airport putting on a media show.
Sharon, Birmingham,
Sarah Matravers has done herself no favours by selling a story to the papers which was so obviously calculated to hurt, even destroy Marc Bannerman. What a nasty evil thing to do and how very ungracious. I think Marc was wrong to get close to someone else in front of the nation - like having an affair right in front of your partners face - not very nice. I had great sympathy for her until she let herself down by trying to get revenge - and hey, why else did she sell that story. To be honest there was not very much substance to it - except that she had to have stitches in her arm. Well you would wouldn't you if you stuck your arm through a pane of glass. Keep your head up Marc anddon't let it spoint anything for you.
