As ageing Baywatch pin-up Pamela Anderson announces she's willing to give her husband of two months, Rick Salomon, another chance, in spite of filing for divorce on Friday, we go in search of the shortest showbiz marriages.

Liza Minnelli & David Gest

The ceremony was star-studded, the best man was Michael Jackson, and the separation was complete within 16 months. It may have been a short marriage but the divorce lasted and lasted. The pair sued and counter-sued one another, with accusations of sexually transmitted diseases, beatings and poisonings flying.

Cher and Gregg Allman

If ever there was a classic rebound tale, this is it. Three days after Cher’s divorce from husband and showbiz partner Sonny was finalised in 1975, she married musician Greg Allman in Las Vegas. Ten days later, Cher filed for divorce, but by then the singer was pregnant. The pair briefly reconciled but the relationship finished for good in 1977.

Jennifer Lopez and Chris Judd

The love ‘em and leave ‘em pop singer married the dancer in 2001 in a traditional white wedding. Ten months later divorce papers were filed. But old J Lo, who was previously married to model Ojani Noa for one year, didn’t lose her love for love. A few months later she was engaged to Ben Affleck and shortly after calling off her wedding to him, tied the knot with singer Marc Anthony.

Shannen Doherty and Ashley Hamilton

The Charmed and Beverly Hills 90210 actress wed D-grad actor Ashley Hamilton, the son of George Hamilton and Alana Stewart, two weeks after meeting him. They separated five months later. Doherty went on to marry Rick Salomon, who later rose to infamamy when he starred in a sex video with Paris Hilton, but they broke-up after nine months.

Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney

The Hollywood actress wed the country singer on a Caribbean beach in May 2005, after a four-month romance. Seven months later the marriage was annulled.

Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman

The one-time Baywatch pin-up wed the world’s wildest basketballer in 1998. Nine days later he tried to have the marriage annulled, however ended up briefly reconciling with Electra. Six months later they began divorce proceedings.

Nicholas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley

The King’s daughter married the Elvis-obsessed actor in 2004. It ended 107 days later with Presley sniping it was “a big mistake." Incredibly, her marriage to Michael Jackson lasted longer – they filed for divorce 19 months after tying the knot.

Eminem and Kim Mathers

The first time the rapper married Mathers he stayed with her for two years. After what was surely one of the messiest divorces of all time (he imagined her violent death in a song, she attempted suicide) they reconciled and remarried last year. Three months later Eminem filed for divorce.

Drew Barrymore and Jeremy Thomas

The actress wed the Welsh bar owner in 1994, declaring “he’s the love of my life”. Six weeks later it was over. But the experience didn’t stop Barrymore trying again. She married comedian Tom Green in July 2001, but he filed for divorce before the year was out.

Dennis Hopper and Michelle Phillip

The one-time Hollywood hellraiser and Mamas and Papas songstress were married for less time than most couples spend on a honeymoon. Their 1971 marriage lasted eight days before Philips filed for divorce.

Britney Spears and Jason Alexander

In 2004 the jeans-clad pop singer married her childhood sweetheart at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. When the nuptials hit the headlines, Spears’s mother was on the first plane to Vegas and within 55 hours, the marriage had been annulled.

Zsa Zsa Gabor and Felipe de Alba

As famous for her nine marriages as her acting, Gabor married actor de Alba in 1982. The next day it was over. While quite an achievement, the one-day marriage can’t quite go down in the record books as the world’s shortest. It was legally void as Gabor was still married to her seventh husband. However, the actresses attitude to domesticity has gone down on the records. She once famously said: "I am a marvellous housekeeper. Every time I leave a man I keep his house!"

Robin Givens and Svetozar Marinkovic

The actress's 1997 marriage to her tennis coach lasted one day. However there is some dispute over this. Marinkovic has reportedly denied the marriage lasted 24-hours, saying it actually only survived seven.
