Actress Billie Piper wed fellow thespian Laurence Fox in front of Doctor Who star David Tennant, Lewis actor Kevin Whately and her former husband, broadcaster Chris Evans, this afternoon.
Dressed in a low-cut ivory dress, with a black coat draped over her shoulders, Piper arrived at the parish Church of St Mary's, in the small village of Easebourne, five minutes before the 2pm ceremony was scheduled to begin. She was accompanied by four bridesmaids in short purple dresses.
Fox had arrived 45 minutes previously, flanked by friends. He made the short walk from the White Horse pub, where guests had gathered before the wedding, to the church past a throng of photographers and reporters. He thanked the photographers who wished him good luck and when asked how he was feeling he replied “very good”.
The paparazzi were joined by locals, who lined the road to catch a glimpse of the couple's famous guests.Tennant, who worked alongside Piper when she played Rose Tyler on Doctor Who, arrived with Whately, Fox's co-star on the Morse spin off, Lewis.
Evans arrived at the medieval church, about half a mile from Piper and Fox's home, with his third wife Natasha Shishmanian.
After a 50-minute ceremony Piper and Fox emerged from the church and were driven away to the reception in a silver Chrysler.
Piper, 25, a former pop star now better known as an award-winning actor, and Fox met last December while performing together in a stage production of Christopher Hampton's Treats. Shortly afterwards Fox, 29, ended a six-year relationship and Piper, 25, left her boyfriend of two years.
The pair were swiftly engaged – a familiar state-of-affairs for Piper, who has been engaged four times. At 18 she married the broadcaster Chris Evans, 16 years her senior. By 21, she was single again and reinvented herself as an actor, winning fans and critical acclaim playing Doctor Who’s assistant Rose Tyler. This year she played a prostitute in ITV2’s drama Secret Diary Of A Call Girl.
Her new husband, best known as the sidekick of Whately's Lewis in the spin-off from Inspector Morse, is the son of the actor James Fox, who starred in Performance with Mick Jagger, and in Tim Burton's 2005 adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. One of his uncles is the actor Edward Fox, who starred in The Day of the Jackal and who plays Mr Brownlow in the BBC’s new adaptation of Oliver Twist and is the father of the actor Emilia Fox. Another uncle is the film producer Robert Fox, famed for his work on Atonement and The Hours.
