So You Think You Can Dance, Living, 8pm
You may be suffering from talent-show fatigue, but this series combines the best of The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing. “Nasty” Nigel Lythgoe (remember him from Pop Idol?) heads a panel searching America for a dance sensation – last series (the second) drew an amazing 69 million votes. In tonight’s first audition programme, the host Cat Deeley turns her mega-watt smile on hopeful contestants in New York. Highlights include the hip-hop wildcard Jamal, who dances like Baloo the bear, and a sizzling ballroom pair, Anya and Pasha.
Green Berets Under Fire, National Geographic, 9pm
There has been a stream of programmes made by film-makers embedded with troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, but this latest bears the dubious honour of getting closest to the front line. The writer-director Steven Hoggard’s team were spending ten days with the Green Berets near Kandahar in Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device (IED), planted by the Taleban, blew up their truck. Two troops died and five others, including two film crew, were injured in the costliest attack in five years, caught shockingly on film here.
Pop on Trial: The 60s/ Chuck Berry in Concert, BBC Four, 10pm/midnight
Stuart Maconie’s panel takes a tour through the heady days of the 1960s, sorting the good from the bad and the ugly, before a rarely seen archive performance from a true rock’n’roll pioneer.
Mark Lawson Talks to Russell T. Davies, BBC Four, 11pm
With the return of Torchwood on BBC Two comes this opportunity to meet the man behind the resurgent Doctor Who and its spin-off, the witty, flamboyant Mr Davies.
