Mark Speight, the BBC television presenter, will not face charges over the death of Natasha Collins, his fiancee, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.
Speight was held on suspicion of murder and of supplying Class A drugs after the 31-year-old actress and presenter was found dead at the couple's flat in St John’s Wood, north London, on January 3.
Speight, 42, called the emergency services after discovering Collins’ body in the bath of the penthouse flat following her apparent cocaine overdose. He insisted he had nothing to do with her death but was arrested later the same day.
Police subsequently decided Collins had not been murdered but her fiancee remained under suspision for the drugs offence and was released on bail.
Speight, who was a presenter of the BBC show SMart and a children's favourite for more than a decade, met Collins when they appeared together in the 1999 CBBC show, See It Saw It.
Collins played the jovial court jester to Mr Speight's King. The rubber-faced Mr Speight, who appeared on the ITV Saturday morning show Scratchy & Co, became a fixture with young viewers, presenting SMart for 12 years.
Collins worked in theatre, television and film after graduating from drama school, appearing in the ITV drama Real Women and the BBC"s 999 Flood Special.
Her acting career was, however, badly affected by injuries sustained in a road accident seven years ago when she was knocked down by a car and seriously injured.
In recent years, regular TV roles dried up for Collins, who worked as a model and presented corporate videos.
