Internet wags once enjoyed posting links to popular videos which, if clicked, would instead direct you to an image of a duck on wheels. Don't ask me why, but duckrolling - as it was known - was very popular. But now there's a better version. Rickrolling (www.yougotrickrolled.com), replaces the duck with a video of Rick Astley's 1988 hit, Never Gonna Give You Up. The video has become a genuine internet phenomenon, garnering 13 million views on YouTube so far and propelling the 42-year-old Lancastrian to new heights of celebrity he surely thought had passed him by. Stranger still, the campy song has been adopted as an anthem by everyone from Scientology protesters (tinyurl.com/ytl699) to basketball fans (tinyurl.com/2vj5yl). Not bad for a tune that last got major airplay 20 years ago - and a true sign of the internet's capacity for absolute randomness.

More curios in a short film festival hosted this weekend by UK-based Propeller TV (www.propellertv.co.uk/ShortFest.aspx). Some of the “shorts” are very good. There's a funny six-second version of Taxi Driver starring a fat kid in a Mohican wig. I also liked the Thelma and Louise rip-off. But the winner of Best World Short, Dans le Coeur, Existe, was beyond the pale, pandering to the worst stereotypes of independent, self-congratulatory film-making. We're talking subtitles, a woman dragging a blood- stained sack through a forest with no explanation as to WHY, and dialogue such as: “Become the sepulchre of one who I love and who is no more”.

For something entirely different, click to a video pop-up book with a twist (tinyurl.com/2vdmzp). ABC3D has a lenticular cover that changes with the angle of your hands. It means that each of the 26 letters of the alphabet merge perfectly into one another. The French designer, Marion Bataille, is releasing the book in October, so this is a sneak preview of what'll be a perfect present for artistically inclined children.
