Fresh from triumphing at the Bafta TV Awards, Gavin & Stacey stars James Corden and Mathew Horne have been given a comedy sketch show.
Described as similar to Morecambe and Wise, the BBC Three show will see Corden, 29, and Horne, also 29, create comedy characters as well as perform as themselves in front of a live studio audience.
Under the working title Horne and Corden Have Come, the pair, who met on the set of Gavin & Stacey, will write and star in six 30-minute shows.
Former actress Kathy Burke is to direct the series. Although she has previously directed for the theatre, it will be the onetime Harry Enfield star’s first behind-the-camera role.
The show is to be made by Tiger Aspect Production, which counts The Catherine Tate Show and Gimme, Gimme, Gimme among its successes.
The company’s Head of Comedy, Sophie Clarke-Jervoise, today called Corden and Horne “Britain’s best new comedy partnership”.
BBC Controller of Comedy Commissioning, Lucy Lumsden, said: "We're so pleased that James and Mat discovered each other through Gavin & Stacey and are delighted to have their new comedy sketch show on BBC Three.”
On Sunday, Gavin & Stacey won the Sky + Audience Award for Programme of the Year at the Bafta TV Awards and Corden, who co-writes the hit BBC Three show as well as playing Smithy - sidekick to Horne’s Gavin, also picked up the Best Comedy Performance gong.
It was the latest in a series of triumphs for the show, which proved a surprise hit soon after its 2007 launch.
Last month, American network NBC, which made the much-lauded US version of The Office, bought the rights to remake Gavin & Stacey. Corden and co-star and co-creator Ruth Jones retained the right to oversee the American production.
The comedy also dominated this year’s British Comedy Awards, collecting three gongs.
