In the world of showbusiness Des O’Connor, the veteran British singer, comic and TV chat show host, tops the media honours list with a CBE. O’Connor, 76, has been a leading light in the entertainment world since the 1950s and his show Des O’Connor Tonight ran for 25 years. Despite his age, he is still going strong and last year he took over from Des Lynam as host of Channel 4’s Countdown.
