King of soul and funk Isaac Hayes dies aged 65 | Listen to the Shaft theme song
Issac Hayes was perhaps best known in recent years as the chef in irreverent animated show South Park. From songs about prostitution to being savaged by bears, here are ten of his best moments.
10. When Cartman is possessed by Kenny, Chef performs an exorcism but forgets to bring along a child for sacrifice.
9. Chef nearly marries a woman called Veronica who the boys expose as a succubus.
8. Chef didn't actually appear in Trapped in the Closet, the famous Scientology parody which caused Hayes, who followed the religion, to quit, but the media attention over his resignation means he will always be associated with the episode. Throughout the installment, in which Kyle is believed to be a reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard, the message "This is what Scientologists actually believe" was flashed across the screen.
7. In the same episode Chef becomes a giggolo, sleeping with Kyle's mother for $100.
6. In Chef Aid, Chef discovers Alanis Morissette has ripped off a song he wrote years before and finds himself being sued by Capitalist Records. The boys organise a concert to raise $2 million to fight the case. The episode inspired the album Chef Aid.
5. After Hayes quit the show following the Scientology parody, South Park’s creators had Chef gruesomely killed off. After joining a brain-washing cult, he falls down a pit where he is ravaged by bears.
4. Chef, who has converted to Islam adopting the name Abdul Mohammed Jabar Rauf Kareem Ali, protests against the rascist imagery on the South Park flag.
3. As the Sundance Festival relocates to South Park, Chef steals the show with his stand selling salty chocolate balls.
2. Chef sings to the boys about the virtues of prostitutes, accompanied on the guitar by James Taylor.
1. With South Park overrun by the living dead, Chef becomes a Michael Jackson look-a-like zombie, scaring the boys with his rendition of Thriller.
