IT has the magic of Disney, but this time seen through the eyes and lens of Annie Leibovitz.
The American photographer has recreated scenes from some of Disney’s best-known films with Hollywood stars cast in the roles they never played. Previously Leibovitz, who has made a career of taking unusual photos of celebrities, had featured Rachel Weisz and Scarlett Johansson in a series of “stills” as part of Disney’s Year of a Million Dreams promotion.
Her latest batch of images, which will be displayed at Disney theme parks, include Whoopi Goldberg, Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Biel, 25, who is best known for films such as The Illusionist and Home of the Brave. She was photographed as Pocahontas, the native American princess who saved an English colonist. Disney released an animated film in 1995.
Leibovitz, who last year photographed the Queen in a shoot that led to a row between the Palace and the BBC, described Biel as “an amazing athlete, who could not have been better as a native American woman running through the woods in the early 17th century”. Biel said she was “a huge Disney fan growing up as a kid where Pocahontas, Cinderella and Snow White were huge characters for me. So this has been a dream”.
