Nicknamed “fake rocks” by the Chinese, Scholar’s Rocks are roughly cut
semiprecious stones immersed in streams for up to 50 years, and are
traditionally used as a means of contemplating the power of nature. The
conceptual sculptor Zhan Wang explores the opposing strengths of tradition
and modernity in his Scholar’s Rock sculpture series.
