Surely the work of the Medieval painter, Hieronymous Bosch, may have provided some creative inspiration for the Chapmans?
Carol Fisher, Croydon, England
Making a statement is not art, it's more like speaking, and the statement in this case is obviously "old people are forgotten", so it's a dull thing to say. I have some respect for the accomplished artist who painted the underlying image. It may have even less to say, but it exhibits skill.
_Felix, Nottingham,
David Ike would love it and so do I. Some hatred bellows for the lizard man madly staring as if to remind us of the age and his tale waiting to be told. It is illuminating.
Hunter Thompson, York, Pa, USA
i think its rather fascinating in the same way that a picture of dorian gray is fascinating. he may beautiful on the inside but is cheated by his looks according to society, or perhaps like dorian, this is a painting of a man who looks fab on the outside and who is rotting inwardly.
Jayne-Anne Mulholland, Salt Lake City, USA
the title infers that we physically and otherwise change with time and that that change may render us unlovable as in a line that dylan sings, 'such a sad thing to see beauty decay, what's sadder still, to feel your heart turn away.'
Jayne-Anne Mulholland, Salt Lake City, USA
I love it. Its brilliant.
This is the visual equivalent of a song by Nirvana, particulary something from the album "In Utero", I would think.
Kurt Cobain would have hung this on his wall, and so shall I.
randhir d, bangalore, India
I think that the name really makes this painting. It's like a cutting statement towards the observer, letting them know they might as well be a grotesque monster-human hybrid because they will be no more familiar to the distant ancestors that see them than the monster that the Chapmans have created.
Tom Nicholson, Barnsley, United Kingdom
I think I prefer the Ood.
cam, essex,
Great! Fantastic, gruesome and witty! Fine craftsmanship! Where do I send my cheque?
Rene, Ottawa, Canada
This is certainly no celebration of life and the attendant decrepitudes that claim us all. Love has nothing to do with it. One can only imagine how the Chapmans will cope when their turn comes.
Ron Collins, Badminton, South Gloucestershire
