The leap of immagination from a bee to a tiger is not so huge but Dali's masterful brushwork turned otherwise simple flashes of immagination into great works. This painting also includes a few recognisable Dali staples, such as his wife (I assume) and the amusing spider-legged elephant. Classic

I have visited Dali's birthplace to see his work several times.I do think this is a classic,I recall as a child the prayer "If I die and do not wake pray to god my soul to take"I think this is in the same vain/sentiment a sort of epitaph that covers life and death with equal passion.Out of body!!

"Creat art" often recognized AFTER artist's death and era ended. Turner paintings described as: Tending to imbecility - by head of Royal Academy. Impressionists'work didn't sell in their lifetime. Dali's work projects HIM - and brilliant technique. It's essentially of its class - surrealism.

Of course it's a classic. Knowing precious little about art, if I were asked to picture a surrealist painting, it would be either this one or Dali's other one with the melting clocks (told you I know precious little). It's quite simply one of the 2 foremost surrealist paintings.

To be a "classic" a work of art has to stand out well above similar works, and I don't think this painting does that. It is, however, a very good picture, initially obscure but then truly thought provoking. The composition is superb; it's just a pity about the title.

why would it not be a classic? Too many other pieces of art are classed as a 'classic' when they do little more to enhance art other than another painting in some long forgotten library. There shouldn't be such a large gap between classic painting and recent painting. Dali should be remembered.

I could look at this for hours, but is it a classic? Doesn't "classic" imply that multitudes recognize it as some kind of icon? I think it could be a classic, probably should be a classic, but whether it is or not depends on your definition of the word..
