The eyes have it
The term “underground collective” may have sinister connotations – unless it refers to Team Wiggly and its life-affirming mission. The team aims to make people smile by “strategically placing wiggly eyes in public places” ( see above). A sticker is left nearby with the web address so that people can join in the fun and visit the site – and before long the entire globe will be covered in wiggly faces. Hopefully. The website has many photos of the sterling work already done. Post boxes, statues, mobile phones, posters and numerous other items have all been livened up. www.teamwiggly.com
Emo overload
Emo is the pacy, angst-ridden poppy branch of rock beloved by moody youngsters with dyed black hair and floppy fringes . Now followers have their very own search engine – EmoGoogle.com. It does everything that the normal Google does, but with added options for “Emo Screamo”, “Emo Diaries”, “Emo Philips” and “Become Emo”. www.emogoogle.com
Blog of the week
The recent Doctor Who two-parter Human Nature/The Family of Blood was acclaimed by fans as among the best work of the recent revival. For this we can partly thank the scriptwriter Paul Cornell, who lets us sneak a peek at the life of a novelist and television writer on his blog, House of Awkwardness. Cornell is rightly proud of his work and the wide variety of feedback that he receives. There are links to relevant sites, for instance the e-book adaptation of Human Nature, on the BBC website and the Gloucester Doctor Who convention that he will be attending. Aficionados of the show will be impressed by his enthusiasm and love for what he does for a living. paul.cornell.blogspot.com
Podcast of the week
Kasper Hauser was the mysterious 19th-century foundling about whom Werner Herzog made a film in 1974. It is also the name of an enigmatic blog by a quartet of San Francisco comedians. Wonderfully realised, the podcast’s wistful and surreal laughs are conveyed in parodies of the cult radio show This American Life with Phantom High School, in which people talk about a fake school where diplomas “crumbled into dust” and the building was made of “spider web crystals”. Very silly and great fun. www.kasperhauser.com
